Before you Begin
Install Order
is Critical When you start programming Crystal with asp.net there are
a few items you may want to download to make the job easier.
Visual Web Developer Express can work ...
Crystal Reports has been part of Visual Studo for several releases. With the
release of Visual Studio 2005 and Crystal Reports XI r2, they work together more
seamlessly than ever. But even now, ther are secrets to getting them to integrate
easily. They work well together if you know a few things. The install
order is critical first of all. You mess up here and nothing will ever work
right. Install Visual Studio 2005 first. This will not work directly
with Visual Web Developer Express, but there are workarounds for that too.
If you work in an environment wehre you need to demo what you can do before you
purchase software, you can get a 90 day demo of Visual Studio from Microsoft here:

Next, install Crystal Reports Developers Edition XI r2. In English,
that is Crystal Reports Developers Edition 11 release 2. If you have Crystal
Reports Developers Edition 11 and not release 2, this file is a download available
from Business Objects here:

xi_release_2.asp
You will use the same key that came with your Original Disks. If you are a
Crystal Report Developer and you install Visual Studio 2005 after Crystal
Reports XIr2 is installed, you will overwrite the Crystal Report XIr2 with a version
of Crystal 10.x something that comes with Visual Studio 2005. But the resolution
is easy. Uninstall the Crystal 11 before you install the Visual Studio 2005
and then re-install it. After you install the Visual studio 2005 and Crystal
Reports XIr2, then you need to install the updated merge modules available from
business Objects here:
-
http://support.businessobjects.com/communityCS/FilesAndUpdates/
crxir2_net_merge_modules.zip.asp
- When you unzip this file, extract the three .msm files into your
C:\\Program Files\Common Files\Merge Modules
When this is complete, you are ready to build custom Web integrated Crystal Reports
applications.
